            Comments about Gigaware® Cat5 Splitter/Combiner (Package of 2):

This device is used to split a LAN line into 2 separate lines. Please understand before you buy: this functions the same as splitting a phone line in the home. There is one stream of communication, and is heard at both ends after the split. If you used 2 phones on one line, you would hear the same thing on both phones. This is why you cannot use two devices on the internet at once on the same line: the same data would have to go to both computers. If you want to have two separate connections work independently of one another and AT THE SAME TIME, you must purchase a ROUTER. Please educate yourself before you write a review claiming a product does not work.

                      Comments about Gigaware® Cat5 Splitter/Combiner (Package of 2):

We needed to place credit card terminal in home office that is not near router. We placed one splitter on two ethernet slots on router and then to ethernet plug on wall. The other splitter was plugged into ethernet jack in the office and then the PC and Point-of-sale ethernet cables plugged in.
                      Voila! as they say.
We have working internet on PC and card reader.
What is funny is that I couldn't use the common initial for the point-of-sale device as it might be considered profane.
                      The nanny state at work!

Tried to use it to create two channels through an Ethernet over Powerline link consisting of an EPL adapter at each end and one of these splitter/combiners at each end.Doesn't work Ethernet over power line as a single channel by itself works fine. Don't know the configuration this splitter/combiner would work in. Useless as far as I am concerned.

This is not meant to split an existing line. This is meant to run two ethernet lines over one cable. You need a hub or a switch to split a single line.

                                Comments about Gigaware® Cat5 Splitter/Combiner (Package of 2):

I have created and used these for years -- they are not a switch as some non-IT types think; rather, they allow one CAT 5 cable with 4 pair to accommodate two independent 10/100 networks (using 2 pair each) Very useful in commercial situations like Point of Sale stations, etc.

                                  Comments about Gigaware® Cat5 Splitter/Combiner (Package of 2):

I tested this ethernet splitter with an HP Desktop running Windows 7 and a Xerox network ready printer. The printer could see the network (I could ping it from my workstation in another office) and the Windows 7 computer did not see the network. I then tried a Linux desktop with a different Windows 7 computer. Linux worked, Windows 7 didn't. Then tried a Windows XP desktop along with the Linux. Linux - Yes, XP - no. THEN, I tried two Linux computers, they BOTH worked! I tried using DHCP and using an assigned IP and neither worked for the Windows 7 or the XP.
In fact, when I had either Windows computer (both were HP, one was a laptop, the other a desktop) they showed that a cable wasn't even present (that infamous red X through the network connection)...so, BUYER BEWARE!
