Comments about RadioShack® 60W Soldering Iron:

After having difficulty with a variable heat soldering station I purchased online, I went to my local Radio Shack and purchased this unit. Worked great! Tip began to deteriorate after one day of soldering wires and connectors, but they do sell replacements.

        Poor Quality

          Best Uses

Comments about RadioShack® 60W Soldering Iron:

This is a poor quality soldering iron. No, I am not expecting a 100.00 Hakko or Weller, BUT this thing has ho heat control what so ever. When I say heat control, I do not mean an external control, which for the price, I should not expect. I mean that it has no internal temperature control meaning it just keeps getting hotter and hotter under use, even red hot. Also because of this, and the poor quality tips it comes with, the tips won't "tin" correctly, and it eats (goes through) tips like crazy. For a quick job in an emergency where you will throw it away after one or two uses, and where a lot of heat is required for larger connectors, etc, it will work. BUT - it should be expected that it is disposable, and not something that should be relied on.

Comments about RadioShack® 60W Soldering Iron:

If your going to get this, you might as well get a cheap one. This is only a slight step up. The heat control is terrible. Use smaller gauge solder.

Comments about RadioShack® 60W Soldering Iron:

This soldering iron was inexpensive, and it did the job I needed it to do. The tip did disintegrate after a few hours of heavy use. Since this is just a rebranded EGC J-060VI soldering iron, you can easily purchase replacement 60W tips for that model.
