Comments about RadioShack SideKick Basic Kit For Arduino:

Not for the novice. No manual. Can find a manual at seeedstudio.com, but it does not correspond to current Arduino or Sidekick parts. Must have sufficient experience to make appropriate adjustments and to substitute parts enclosed with kit for parts described in the Seeed Studio manual. Would only recommend to a friend who was confident in his experience with electronics.

It's true, this is a rebranded kit from Seeed. Here are the badly needed instructions:

      http://www.seeedstudio.com/wiki/Arduino_Sidekick_Basic_Kit

Nice breadboard, handy flexible jumper wires. I would have given it five stars if it included an H-bridge motor driver chip, but that's probably just me.

      • No Tutorials Or Reference

      Best Uses

Comments about RadioShack SideKick Basic Kit For Arduino:

I bought this along with an Arduino Uno to have a decent kit of parts with which to begin learning how to create with Arduino. But I quickly realized there was no tutorial or other reference included and no connection to other tutorials that I am aware of. I am an intermediate level electronics enthusiast, without that level of knowledge this kit would be useless. Further, there are no part specs which is essential when creating any circuit intended to achieve a specific result. In hindsight, I should have purchased a starter kit recommended by Arduino.cc as there would be tutorials to follow and learn with. This kit is only for seasoned techs.

Comments about RadioShack SideKick Basic Kit For Arduino:

well I do like that there is a lot of stuff in there for the price, and that resister color code chart is realy nicely done. yet most of the componets are thrown together with nothing to say what is what you are completly on your own as to what part is what and how do you use any of them. wich wouldn't be so bad if you have some exprence working with partks like this, but it is marked as "no experence required" wich to me means you should not need to know what any of the parts in the box are or how to use them before you open it.
but there is no help given beyond the resister color code. even a link to a webpage gving basic information on each part would be a big inprovment over what I got.

Comments about RadioShack SideKick Basic Kit For Arduino:

While this kit provides a good variety of parts the resistors provided are of insufficient quality for use with sensors. The thermistor and Photo resistor both require resistors to complete the measurement circuit. The 5% resistors included are not only imprecise, but likely temperature sensitive. One could create a Wheatstone bridge using the variable resistor and calibrate at a known temperature, but a more precise resistor component would be a simpler solution.

Comments about RadioShack SideKick Basic Kit For Arduino:

I purchased this kit so I could start playing with my new Raspberry Pi. It has a lot of what you'll need to get started with prototyping, and really nothing is specific to the Arduino.

All of the jumpers are malemale, so I also grabbed a set of femalefemale jumpers and a 40-pin header (Part #276-0151). With that, I can map the GPIO directly to the first 13 rows of the breadboard and go to town.

The only negative is that the components are undocumented. I'm getting ready to tinker with the servo, and I don't even have a part number to work with.

Comments about RadioShack SideKick Basic Kit For Arduino:

I got ten 10 inch multi-colored breadboard-wire, and many 4 inch breadboard wire. Using this kit with the STK500 via expansion slots makes this kit nice. Would be better if it came with some female hookup wire; the plugs can probably be pulled out though.

Wish there came a manual for the sensors.

The breadboard it comes with is super cool looking.
