Too Loud for Most Purposes

Comments about RadioShack® 4-Channel Stereo Microphone Mixer:

I bought it about a year ago and hadn't gotten around to spreading the word...

This mixer is very loud, regardless of what it is plugged into. There is no way to control this "gain surplus", so to get any kind of sound, you'll have to suffer some hissing noise in the background. When the mixer level is above 1, I can not have my microphone within any reasonable distance of the amp. It's a very annoying that the setting for low volume output is practically nonexistent.

Not recommended for home users or small performances where any amp is not at least 20 feet away from the microphone.

Comments about RadioShack® 4-Channel Stereo Microphone Mixer:

When I started DJing for my wife's business group last year, research told me I needed a mixer to control music and the occasional mic input or other audio device (iPad).
I play music using iTunes on my laptop and connect to the mixer via headphone jack. I output the mixer through a sound system. It works very well. The first time I plugged a mic in, I was surprised how loud it was. I had to move the volume slider almost all the way down to balance voice and music.
Controlling music/video sound using left/right sliders has taken practice, but overall, this simple mixer does its job nicely!
My only issue is the lack of a battery strength meter.

Comments about RadioShack® 4-Channel Stereo Microphone Mixer:

I have had this mixer a month and have had no problems. I have used it about 15 hours total. I was able to get a power adapter, but haven't used it much as I wanted to see how long the batteries would last. Battery life seems good. Sound quality is good, except alittle high gain with a mic. Keep in mind it's for basic use, not high end. It seems to be a very good mixer for the price. I use it to DJ some, and for home recording with guitar and vocals.

Comments about RadioShack® 4-Channel Stereo Microphone Mixer:

Worked ok for the first dozen times. Now, Low battery light stays on even with Radio Shack power supply. Radio Shack also tested the battery, which was at 100%. It's not working... Internal short or bad connection, maybe? I don't have time for this!

Comments about RadioShack® 4-Channel Stereo Microphone Mixer:

I have been working in radio for over 25 years... I have worked with a lot of equipment over the years and to be honest a lot of it is over kill!!!

I started a community radio station in 2002 and we do over 60 LIVE sporting broadcast (High School and College)a year. This mixer has been my mixer of choice for a couple of reasons: Light Weight, Simple Controls, Very Portable and of course the Price...

The only complaint I would have with this product is the lack of control for the highs and lows (but I can live with that)... We do not record music or anything like that simply play-by-play broadcasting and interviews.

It works well with my PC/iPad depending on the type of broadcast. You can visit our website and listen for yourself (www.ktorradio.com)

Comments about RadioShack® 4-Channel Stereo Microphone Mixer:

This is a very good mixer for the price. The microphone gain is very high that's why there is more than the usual amount of hiss. The quality of the sound is good. I connect the output of the mixer to my radio's line in and I connect the input of the mixer to the headphone jack of my laptop for sound for movies. I also record my rap music using a microphone and keyboard with the mixer and the line in of my laptop using a recording software.

Comments about RadioShack® 4-Channel Stereo Microphone Mixer:

I've been using this just over a week at my house as an additional mixer with my home office stereo. I noticed that the "low battery" light just came on today, even though I've been turning the unit off when not in use, and I haven't been using it much in the week since I bought it. 9V batteries are expensive, and I bought them new at the same time I bought this unit. so either the radio shack brand batteries are really poor, or this unit really uses up the power quickly, or both. Why the unit doesn't come with a power adapter, I can't guess. I'm going to return the unit though if I can't find a power adapter.

Comments about RadioShack® 4-Channel Stereo Microphone Mixer:

The external power supply connection is totally worthless! The owner's manual doesn't give the tip size, but it seems to be "L" tip (OD 5mm, ID 2.5mm). The Radio Shack help desk suggested using the Enercell Universal 300mA AC Adapter
Model: 273-315 Catalog #: 273-315. Doesn't work at all. The "battery low" led lights solid red, then the whole unit goes completely dead.

I thought maybe the mixer doesn't like the well-regulated power, so I bought a 9 volt unregulated power supply. Same symptoms – kills the mixer completely.

I would welcome news from anyone who got it to work.
