Comments about RadioShack® SAME Weather Radio W/ AM/FM Radio and Dual Alarm:

Love my new radio. It's amazing what a good radio can do. Volume control could be better implemented, but the rest is amazing. It's so easy to set presets. The touch screen on this thing is not a gimmick; it works nicely.

I haven't had a chance to test the weather alert portion of this -- I'm a little worried about getting woken up by stuff that I don't want to know about (the only warning I want to be woken by is tornado, the rest are nice to know). But I think most units on the market require certian warnings (e.g. volcano) to be required. I.e. you can't turn them off.

But this has reignited my love of radio. I love this thing. The biggest problem I have now is organizing my presets. I bought this for $80 and now it's 50 or 60 on sale, but I don't mind too much. I love this thing.

Comments about RadioShack® SAME Weather Radio W/ AM/FM Radio and Dual Alarm:

OK. I've had this for a couple days and it was one of the more expensive units in the store. I'm mid-career, I've always liked electronics that provide people true value, I'm picky about sound quality and I've not had a dedicated SAME weather radio before. Having said that, so far, I am really impressed. The touch screen is a nice plus and different than any others I have seen. I really can't imagine setup being any easier. It is reasonable compact size, looks nice, and the sound is very good considering it has only one speaker and no base, treble, or tone control. (Honestly, it probably sounds better than a lot of radios this size with those controls though.) This is not an expensive stereo receiver, but the voice clarity is above average in my opinion. The AM/FM has has a nice seek function and 6 presets for each band along with fairly good reception as well. In fact, the AM band plays stations that my Onkyo TX604 ($400) receiver with external antenna cannot get. It does run off AC power and/or 4AA batteries but has no crank for emergency power. I've used the alarm once and it works fine but I did not see an option to wake to the radio or weather report instead of the alarm tone--that would be nice to have as an option. The volume is acceptable but also does not seem to go overly loud. Of course I haven't tested this in an emergency yet, but I understand the SAME is a great function to focus alerts in your area and I'm looking forward to that as I was able to program in the counties from internally stored, clearly displayed lists without even looking at the book. Finally, while the touch screen is really nice, there are a few menus where controls are close together so care is needed to ensure you touch the right function. For those with really big fingers or tremors, a slightly larger touch screen would be better. It appears well-built and durable but only time will tell that. All in all, as picky as I am, this is a really nice unit and I would easily buy again when comparing it to the other units I have seen--5 stars. Addressing the few shortfalls noted though would make it even better as long as they didn't drive the price up.

Comments about RadioShack® SAME Weather Radio W/ AM/FM Radio and Dual Alarm:

I bought this radio because I wanted to upgrade my weather radio. I read that it was the best out and there and I second that! I have had many weather radios but this is the best ever! The AM/FM radio is also superb! I listen to talk radio daily and find myself using this radio at my desk and bed for just that over my other radios. The tone on the speaker is perfect for voice and the reception is just amazing! The touch pad is awesome! Get it! It is worth every penny! Thank you Radio Shack!

Comments about RadioShack® SAME Weather Radio W/ AM/FM Radio and Dual Alarm:

I test weather radios for a living and I can't recommend this product enough. It truly is the best weather radio I've ever tested, so much so that I purchased two of my own. I believe this model is the replacement to the RadioShack® All-Hazards Weather Alert Clock Radio with Skywarn model 12-519 as both have alarm clocks, an AM/FM radio, an AUX function, and backlit dot matrix displays.
The reception quality is stellar on both NOAA broadcasts and AM/FM broadcasts. It has a really clear full range speaker, rich sound, and innovative touch screen. It can hold up to 20 concurrent alerts, cycling through each one in chronological order as they are received. This is also found on the RadioShack® SAME Weather Radio model 12-991 and RadioShack® 7-Channel Handheld Weather Radio with SAME model 12-993. This model uses the same "police car siren" tone found on the 12-991, 12-993, and 12-591.
