Comments about Seeed Music Shield:

Yes, this shield (sort of) works as specified ...
sometimes. The major problem is the SD card reader
on it -- it's extremely fussy about what kinds of
micro SD cards it accepts. Even most of the low-capacity
(under 1 GB) ones give read errors.

The software libraries need much more work and take
considerable finagling to install. But ...
a couple of the (Seeed Studio) supplied examples do
work as specified.

Note that Seeed Studio has released a newer version of
this shield, and some or all of the above problems may
have been fixed. The newer shield has the female headers
that this older version lacks.
