Best non digital scanner bar none!

By ScannerNut

from Modesto, CA, USA

Comments about Uniden® BCT15X Analog TrunkTracker III Mobile Scanner:

I have two of these and am going to buy a third. While it has the worst user manual I have ever seen, it is still the best non digital scanner there is, period! Buy it, download an easier manual, program it with a PC, go through the learning curve and you will not be disappointed if you are a hardcore scanner nut. If your not a hardcore scanner nut, and you want a simple to use scanner with not much of a learning curve, look elsewhere.

Tons of Scanner for the price!

By GrandpaGreyFeathers

from Washington State

Comments about Uniden® BCT15X Analog TrunkTracker III Mobile Scanner:

I have only had my BCT15X, for about a week. It's a wonderful Scanner. Take a little time, orient yourself with the Radio. Go on-line read the Manual. Very nice Scanner. It will take me some time to utilize all the independent features. GPS, Mapping, Etc. Soon, I am purchasing an additional unit for the Mobile.

Great scanner

By Aron

from Southeast, America

Comments about Uniden® BCT15X Analog TrunkTracker III Mobile Scanner:

This is a great mobile/base scanner. I use mine as a mobile and I could not be happier. The features are what make this scanner stand above the majority of the others. While it does demand a sharp learning curve, it is WELL worth the effort. Programming the scanner using only the scanner interface (not PC programming) can be very frustrating even for the ones who know how to manipulate this scanner. (I think) the scanner was meant to be programmed via a computer. This is not a down side to this scanner, its simply meant to be programed this way. One would not use a pen and paper to plan today's space shuttle launches, even though we have used such methods in the past. This scanner requires different methods of programming, but still can be programmed the conventional way. I use Free Scan (free programming software) to program mine and it turned hours of manual programming into minutes of simple 'copy paste' using EasyGrab and RadioReference .com frequency database Ask around on the RadioReferance forums and they will happily refer you to the sources needed to program and edit your scanner. Yes, Uniden did not do a great job documenting and explaining this scanner, but there is an online manual that is easy to use and is very explicit. (look for 'BCT15X Easier to Read Manual'). Once you have learned how to program at least one system/group with a few frequencies, your well on your way to figuring out this scanner. I have had my scanner for a few months, and I have roughly 400+ frequencies programmed into it with only 3% of its memory filled. As I mentioned before, I use my scanner as a mobile unit. I travel a lot in my state, so I need a scanner with a large memory. I have 10 whole counties and all its emergency and recreational (HAM) frequencies programmed in. When I travel into a new county, I push less than 3 buttons and I'm monitoring an entire counties worth of frequencies. As this is a review and not a scrutinous analysis, I will not cover all the features of this scanner. But its features are what make this scanner stand out. It is a very sensitive unit and coupled with a good antenna (not a $20 on an antenna ), this scanner will last you many years to come.

Great radio

By wildbill

from Washington State

Comments about Uniden® BCT15X Analog TrunkTracker III Mobile Scanner:

I was worried what I would do when the ole PRO2006 died. I need not have worried this is a truly great radio for an unreal price. Get BC tool software for programing. This programs more like a commercial 2way radio. I have spent a few years working in 2way radio industry and this is not too bad. (Just get the software.) At this point I have two of these and getting a third. They clone fast and make changes real fast with the software. The audio quality is really so good, and I can tone control my RX and all this for under $200

Good, but poorly documented

By UndoubtingThomas

from Los Angeles, CA, USA

Comments about Uniden® BCT15X Analog TrunkTracker III Mobile Scanner:

I believe Uniden should listen to the feedback being given by a lot of the reviews here and on the web. Don't get me wrong - the BCT15X is a fantastic product. It has all the bells and whistles that a scanner enthusiast needs, but as sophisticated as it is, the documentation is so poor that you can't just turn it on and figure stuff out - which a lot of users would do. I for one, have finally figured out how to use all the buttons and manual programming... after 2 years! And this comes after countless hours of trying to understand concepts and even using FreeSCAN - a free software which I recommend you use for easy programming. Uniden, I think you should hire the right person to write documentation for your own products which would be more user-friendly and not like a technical manual for someone with a degree in electronics. The fact that other people have to go in and write an "easier" manual says a lot - but nothing says it more than your own staff recommending users to read it instead of the manual you supplied.

Great model, taught me a thing or two

By igofishn

from Undisclosed

Comments about Uniden® BCT15X Analog TrunkTracker III Mobile Scanner:

I know people are quick to slam this scanner because it may not be 100% self explanatory, but with all of the advanced features it has, I dont mind the tradeoff. This really a high end model and the price is a lot better now too. The buttons & screen are really cool to work.

For puzzle lovers only

By BuffaloJIm148

from Buffalo NY

Comments about Uniden® BCT15X Analog TrunkTracker III Mobile Scanner:

I have been around shortwave receivers and scanners for 20+ years and was a computer programmer. By far, this is the most complicated and frustrating radio I have ever had the misfortune to own. Human interface is horrible, documentation is lousy and it is the worst radio related waste of money I have ever made.

Best Base/Mobile Scanner For Non-Digital Use(P-25)

By AT125User

from Yonkers, NY, USA

Comments about Uniden® BCT15X Analog TrunkTracker III Mobile Scanner:

I've had my BCT-15X for 2 months and yes..it is a learning curb but once you get used to it....you will NOT want anything else! The unit is built solidly...great audio, sensitivity and I wish I could put up a roof antenna but were I live...well that is not possible but I will get a Uniden Magnetic mount all band scanner antenna and put it outside the window on the air conditioner. The controls, display and knobs, front end are second to none. You can join www.yahoo.com/bct15xgroups or www.radioreference.com for more information. Another huge hit by Paul O.-Sr.Product Designer at Uniden America Corp.

BCT15xt very hard to program

By RcSportsman

from Miami, OK

Comments about Uniden® BCT15X Analog TrunkTracker III Mobile Scanner:

This is the hardest scanner I have ever owned to program. Should have read reviews and I wouldn't spent the money on this one. Still trying to program, maybe someday I will have success. If you are a pro maybe you will get along with this, other wise stay away and keep your money.
