The relay shield is an Arduino compatible smart module with four mechanical relays providing an easy way to control high voltage. The max switching power is 70W DC or 35V AC. It can be directly controlled by Arduino/Seeeduino through digital IOs with external 9V supply. With the XBee form socket and 315/433MHz RF module interface, the Relay Shield can be remotely controlled, making it easy to use in robotics, industry control, smart houses and etc.

Works well as a thermostat relay control

Comments about Seeed Relay Shield:

I use it with an Arduino to control the central heating and cooling system in my house. I connect the Arduino to my computer and communicate to it through serial, where an Apache Tomcat server sends the commands and hosts a website with a control interface.

I've been using it for a few days now and it's great so far. You simply set a digital pin on the Arduino to HIGH and the relay switches to the "Normally Open" position. Set the pin to LOW and the relay switches to the "Normally Closed". These are SPDT relays meaning each relay has 3 connections: Common, Normally Open, and Normally Closed.

This shield does take 9V 500mA but I simply used a boost converter to boost the USB 5v up to 9V and it works fine.

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
