Comments about Uniden® Uniden® HomePatrol-1 Scanner: Well I am happy with the sound qaulity and the reception for the most part. It can be complicated to set up in an optimized way. Easy to get going though just put in your zip code and away it goes. Problem is it loads over a thousand channels in a big city which is going to cause alot of missed transmissions. So... you have to build favorite lists. That can be complicated to weed out enough stuff to get a streamlined system. In Kansas City alot of Police Departments are all on the same APCO 25 system. It can be a mess cutting down to a managable list that will not miss alot of stuff in the scanning process. Also.. be careful to not set your range to short or your squelch to high or low. About the 2nd notch on squelch is best. If its set wrong you'll get nothing and take the unit back. Use Uniden support if you have trouble. I do seem to miss some stuff compared to the online scanner at radio ref site but probably is the little antenna. Everytime you select new channel types or favorite lists it will build a new database. So far I think its great. Think some of my missed stuff was wrong squelch setting and range somehow got down to 1 mile... lol. That was problematic. Anyhow, it can be somewhat complicated to streamline it so it gets everything. I can see where maybe if you put the time in a manual unit could be better in the long run. But this is easy to get up and running so you can hear some stuff. Its the optimization that can get complicated. So its like this ... its easy to get running if you use the full database for your area. But if you want to hear just one city and not miss alot of stuff you'll need a computer to build your favorites with and it is alittle bit complicated if your new to scanners. Your other option is to buy a manual scanner, the more traditional kind and have an expert program it for you, thats also an option. Good Luck and happy scanning.

Comments about Uniden® Uniden® HomePatrol-1 Scanner: This scanner is AWESOME. I have looked at alot of options for a digital scanner and this one is by far the best choice. All you have to do is enter zip code and go. Reception and range are very good. This makes my 5th scanner.

Best Uses Comments about Uniden® Uniden® HomePatrol-1 Scanner: Bought this scanner thinking i wouldnt have to do much since it updates etc off the data system. Wrong!! I compared this to a scanner that was already programmed and it didnt pick up anything. After receiving this scanner about 5pm needless to say i took it back to the local store at 8:30pm the same night. It pretty much aims you to the extreme version and thats another $100. Why? Radio reference is pretty much a free open site for the most part.

Cons Best Uses Comments about Uniden® Uniden® HomePatrol-1 Scanner: This scanner is easy to use right out of the box! I have owned several scanners over the years and this one is great! With the Uniden Software it's easy to program but for 30 bucks I purchased the ARC Patrol software from Butel...this software makes up for what the Uniden software lacks...you can tweak your lists and put in just what you want to...well worth it because you can use the radioreference database to import systems and lists..it does not get easier!

Comments about Uniden® Uniden® HomePatrol-1 Scanner: Building your own Favorites List is almost impossible. The database they give you does not have all the frequencies I used on my old scanner. Is there a good forum where you can get help?
