Product Summary

Development and prototyping.

The Arduino Mega 2560 is a microcontroller board based on the ATmega2560. It has 54 digital input/output pins (of which 14 can be used as PWM outputs), 16 analog inputs, four UARTs (hardware serial ports), a 16MHz crystal oscillator, a USB connection, a power jack, an ICSP header and a reset button. It contains everything needed to support the microcontroller; simply connect it to a computer with a USB cable or power it with an AC-to-DC adapter or battery to get started. It's compatible with most shields designed for the Arduino Duemilanove or Diecimila.

  • Powered via USB connection or external power supply - with power source selected automatically
  • Operates on an external supply of 6-20V (7-12V recommended)
  • 16 analog inputs, each of which provides 10 bits of resolution (i.e. 1024 different values)
  • Maximum PCB length and width of 4" and 2.1", USB connector and power jack extend beyond PCB
  • 256KB flash memory for storing code (of which 8KB is used for the bootloader), 8KB SRAM, 4KB EEPROM

Comments about RadioShack Arduino Mega 2560 REV3:

If you're into this sort of thing, stop wasting your time and get either this microcontroller (miniature programmable computer on a single chip) board or their Mega ADK R3 model.

I could go on about Arduino and the Mega 2560 R3 board, but since you have to go to the Arduino site anyway to download their software to use the board, if you want to learn more about it, I recommend you go there to check out all of its features and capabilities. The site also has an active forum and detailed references and guides with example programs to help out the less experienced user.

To use this board you'll also need a basic printer style USB cable (not included). Fortunately I had an extra one that came with my cable modem.

Comments about RadioShack Arduino Mega 2560 REV3:

I purchased the Arduino Mega 2650 R3 because I am an electronics hobbyist in the extreme. This unit has more ram for larger project code, more i/o pins for extreme interfacing, and still uses the standard arduino programming IDE (thus comp. with the other models code in most cases). It is also compatible with most shields and accessories or can accommodate them with minor effort. The R3 can handle any project your throw at it. Sure, it's bigger than the other models, but for me that's what makes it a touch easier to use. No matter what project I'm working on, I can rest easy knowing the "smarts" are already in-hand.

Very well designed and very compatible.
**Please NOTE: R3 (Rev 3) is the model you should purchase. It is an improvement on the older R2. Be sure to check before you buy--ask an online assistant or pick-up the phone and speak with pre-sales support if necessary. May as well get the latest with the same $.

Comments about RadioShack Arduino Mega 2560 REV3:

This is a very useful item, and would make a great gift for anyone who tinkers, invents, plays with electronics or any thing along that line. The only bad thing I can think of is the price, However many of the alliterative online sellers will charge shipping which would have you end up paying more and then having you wait a week or so. Also if you can't get the support you want for this item from Radio Shack, there is a huge community of people at "[@]" who are willing to help you with any problem you have with getting this board to work. Plus they respond within a few minutes to an hour. Over all, I highly recommend getting the 'Arduino Mega 2560 REV3'.
