Comments about RadioShack® Panel Meter 0-15VDC:

Bought 6 meters for club project. Two did not adjust to zero. Disasembled and found the meters are now 50 uA, 2k movements and the scaling resistor is now 300K. With such low power these meters take about 2 seconds to move to 12 volts. The previous 1 ma movements jump to 12 volts in about 1/2 second. I would pay $5 more to get the old 1 ma in the previous smaller rear style (made in Taiwan).
A 50 uA movement is useful but not in my current project.
The specification is 27.5K but the measured value is now 300K.

Comments about RadioShack® Panel Meter 0-15VDC:

This meter works great for me. I have built several Power supplies and this meter works just fine. I also have several 12volt Astron power supplies and other 12v power supplies for Ham Radio Use Many of these power supplies do not have meters built in so this works as a nice in-expensive meter to use to monitor output voltages. It seemed to a little bulky and I had to take some extra time to drill and use a file to round out the hole. But a Plastic box from Radio Shack and this meter do an great job. It is what it is and for [$] it is fine. I can remember the older days 60s and 70s building a power supply a similar panel meter would be expensive and just as bulky. I am glad Radio Shack still carries some of these meter, wish they carried more.

Comments about RadioShack® Panel Meter 0-15VDC:

I have been ordering literally hundreds of the #22-410 meters for many years and am VERY dissappointed to find that my latest order contained the #22-036 variant. My company has puchased well over 1,000 of the original configuration, but I now find that these new ones will no longer work in our application. I suppose I could force the new ones to fit by butchering the cases, but then the movements are no longer sealed. The application using these is registered, and now I will have to find another source for meters and reapply for registration at a cost to us of $35,000. Radio Shack you are creating a lot of problems for many of your customers who have designed equipment around the 22-410 meter!! Signed, One Very Unhappy Longtime Customer

Comments about RadioShack® Panel Meter 0-15VDC:

I have changed my opinion about this meter since I have learned to cut off the upper half of the rear cylinder with a hot knife. This exposes the meter terminals and removes the rather large connection screws. Now you can solder directly to the 370 microamp, 220 ohm meter and discard the scaling resistors. Tape over the cutoff area keeps the meter movement clean. Now the meter works very well. I have written a magazine article describing a linear scale ohm meter which can use this meter or the 22-410 meter. I have another article in the works for an AC voltmeter also

Specs are wrong and rear is too big

                          from Liberty, KS

Comments about RadioShack® Panel Meter 0-15VDC:

The previous model 22-410 15 VDC panel meter was much smaller in the rear section (about 1 inch dia.by 1-in. deep) and had a separate scaling resistor. The newer 22-036 meter is huge in the rear (about 1.8 inches in dia.and 1.5 inches deep) and the scaling resistor is built-in. Internally the actual meter movement is still only about 1 inch in diameter. Now your projects will need a box that is several times larger than before. Also you can't use the meter for some other purpose unless you disassemble the meter and unsolder the existing scaling resistors. The huge meter terminal screws are much harder to work with than the previous solder tabs and they are excessively long.
The meter is now abour 400 microamps full scale and has a resistance of about 200 ohms. The built-in scaling resistors bring the total meter resistance to about 38.9 kilohms of the one I measured. The website specs and the package specs do not agree with my measurements.
The real appeal of the 22-410 meter was the small rear mounting and the easy availability of using the meter as a 0-1 ma movement.
The new 22-036 meter now takes up much more room than the competition and wastes volume.
I have used many 22-410 meters in custom designed test equipment such as a 1.5 ohm meter, a headset mike tester, an AC rms voltmeter, and an RF field strength meter adaptor for the PRO-51 scanner. Future designs will likely not use the 22-036 model.
I recently sent an article in to QST which uses the 22-410 model as a 1.5-ohm meter.
Please return to supplying the 22-410 model meter. I like to use Radio Shack parts in designs when I write articles because of the coutry wide availability of your stores.
