      Comments about RadioShack® FM Trap:

This is a pretty well-made FM trap. I was very surprised by the quality of the machined F connectors. The rejection in the upper FM band is very good, with better than 20dB above 93MHz. The rejection at the low-end FM band edge of 87.8MHz is only 6dB. This is due to the proximity to TV channel 6, which is at 82-88MHz. (You want to reject FM, not TV. It is impossible to make a perfectly sharp cutoff.) The insertion loss for TV channels 2 to 5 and 7 to 51 is 1.5dB or less and is very flat. (I'm talking about RF channels here, not digital channel numbers.)

Here are some insertion loss numbers I measured on a VNA:

TV RF channel, measurement frequency(MHz), insertion loss(dB)
      -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
      2, 55, 0.1
      3, 61, 0.2
      4, 67, 0.2
      5, 77, 0.3
      6, 83, 0.6
      FM, 87.8, 5.8
      FM, 89, 8.7
      FM, 90, 11.6
      FM, 91, 14.9
      FM, 92, 18.5
      FM, 93, 22.3
      :
      FM, 106.5, 33.6
      :
      FM, 108, 35.6
      :
      7, 175, 0.2
      :
      13, 211, 0.2
      14, 471, 0.1

I live near a very strong FM station at 106.5MHz. This is perfect for me. But if you are near FM stations at 90MHz or lower, you may want to use 2 traps in series.

      Poor Performance

        Comments about RadioShack® FM Trap:

I live 1-2 miles from FM towers that blast their power at my house. This FM trap just doesn't attenuate the signal enough. If you read the specifications on the package, the attenuation is very low at the low end of the FM spectrum... only 6 dB, and higher at the upper end of the FM spectrum. And most of the FM stations near my house are at the low end of the FM dial. I could hook up a couple of these together to increase the attenuation, but then I'd just have more insertion loss. The problem I had is that I could still hear FM signals interfering with analog TV stations on my TV... channels 6, 7, 9 for example. I would just buy an FM trap with higher attenuation value if I could do it again.

          Comments about RadioShack® FM Trap:

I had two large older UHF/VHF antennas in my attic but could only get a clear, unbroken signal on 2 of the 20+ OTA channels available. This simple inexpensive FM trap now lets me get just about every channel without problems.

            Comments about RadioShack® FM Trap:

We have well over a thousand dollars invested in our recently-redesigned public safety scanner setup in our television newsroom.

However, once we connected the scanners to our new roof-mounted antenna (RS model 20-043), the signal level meters were peaking on every frequency, and "drowning out" what we needed to hear.

After researching similar issues on scanner forums, we bought this FM trap from RS for just a few bucks. It has solved everything! We're pulling in public safety agencies from 50+ miles away now!
